The head of the German Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Kai-Achim Schönbach, resigned after saying that Crimea would never return to Ukraine.
German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht accepted the Vice Admiral’s request.
There is no Crimean peninsula (in Ukraine — ed.) , it will never return. The fact that the peninsula belongs to Russia is a fact.
After that, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry demanded that the German government refute the words of the head of the Navy … The admiral simply left without taking his words back.
But that’s not the end of the story! Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk called Schönbach’s resignation « insufficient»
According to him, in order to restore confidence, the German government must change its policy towards Kiev (probably, we are talking about loans and arms supplies, which Germany had previously refused to Ukraine). One more detail: Melnik began his statement with the words «German arrogance and megalomania». Well, if Berlin “swallows” this too …
