An alley of Russian-Cuban friendship was laid in Artek

In Artek, twelve slender cypresses became the first trees on the alley of Russian-Cuban friendship, laid in memory of Yuri Gagarin and Ernesto Che Guevara, who were the first leaders of the Soviet-Cuban and Cuban-Soviet friendship societies. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Crimea, Chairman of the Crimean Regional Branch of the Russian Society for Friendship with Cuba Irina Kiviko.
The alley is planted at the entrance group in the heart of Artek — Palace Square, the venue for all the significant events in the life of all nine Artek camps.
Activists of the Crimean branch of the Russian Society for Friendship with Cuba planted 12 cypress trees and laid the first alley in Russia in honor of Russian-Cuban friendship. We will always remember and honor the memory of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and the legendary Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara— said Irina Kiviko.
She recalled that this year marks the 95th anniversary of the birth of Erensto Che Guevara. KRO RODK activists established that he had been to the Crimea, where in August 1962, on the eve of the acute phase of the Caribbean crisis, he met with the leaders of the USSR.
Irina Kiviko also spoke to the participants of the «First in Space, the Best in the World» shift, representatives of 83 regions of the Russian Federation, participants and winners of the «Big Break» contest.
During the meeting, issues of strengthening Russian-Cuban friendship were touched upon, which is confirmed by contacts at the highest state level: the visit of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez to Russia in 2022 and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the joint opening of a monument to Fidel Castro in Moscow .
The importance of public diplomacy, establishing contacts between universities and research centers, medical organizations, journalists, and students was noted.
Irina Kiviko recalled that the Crimean branch of the Russian Society for Friendship with Cuba supported the initiative of the Crimean Federal University named after V.I. Vernadsky about holding a competition of scientific, popular science and journalistic works «Cuba: yesterday, today, tomorrow» on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the birth of Ernesto Che Guevara and called on Artek residents to participate in it.
